Mrs. Jacobson incorporates a variety of primary sources in her teaching, including original letters, diaries, political cartoons, and art because they help reinforce concepts introduced in lectures and reading, and make the information come alive. Mrs. Jacobson identifies her most rewarding moments as those when students have intellectual breakthroughs and are able to connect ideas discussed previously with something current. Her aim is to help students understand the emotions historic figures experienced, the dilemmas they faced, and the motivations they had for the decisions they made. Mrs. Jacobson’s outside interests include photography, film of the 1930s and ‘40s, and Women’s History.
