After-School Programs Enriching Student Lives

After-School Programs Enriching Student Lives

When researchers from the Harvard Family Research Project analyzed a decade of studies they concluded that “children and youth who participate in after-school programs can reap a host of positive benefits in a number of interrelated outcome areas—academic, social/emotional, prevention, and health and wellness” (http://www.sedl.org/pubs/sedl-letter/v20n02/afterschool_findings.html).  Westminster School strongly supports these findings and are excited to offer our families with our new K-4 After-School Enrichment program. Because of our extraordinary in-school specials, we have seen our students thrive when performing on the Gryphon stage or scoring the winning goal on the soccer field.  With the addition of our after-school enrichment program, Westminster students will have the opportunity to explore something new, experience personal growth, and relax and enjoy themselves after a long day of learning. But most importantly, we hope our program will inspire students discover and develop a passion.

Starting this fall we are offering instruction in dance—jazz/ballet and hip hop, music—piano and guitar, soccer, and Lego Robotics and Engineering.  Classes, taught by outside experts, will offer dynamic, guided instruction.   Not only will children end their school day by having fun, they will also be engaged in activities that help to build their confidence and develop lifelong skills aimed at fostering creativity, promoting teamwork, and nurturing their self-development. Students will also be provided a healthy snack with drink, homework help, engaging activities, and professional supervision.

Westminster School K-4 After-School Enrichment will offer new classes in the spring to accommodate student interests and I always invite input from parents. If you have an idea for a great after school program that Westminster might be interested in offering, do not hesitate to contact me at jlarose@westminsterschool.com.
